Recyclatech has developed an industrial biotechnology process for devulcanisation of used rubber, for example from truck tyres. The devulcanised rubber can be reused into high value products.
The Urban Water Technology Centre (UWTC) were contacted through the Scottish Biofuel Programme (SBP) by Recyclatech to investigate the biochemical methane potential of a spent culture medium obtained through the industrial biotechnology process for devulcanisation of used rubber. The present study determined the compositional characteristics of the spent culture medium and the anaerobic biodegradability of the effluent using standard experimental methods.
