PureMalt Products Ltd is an East Lothian based company producing a unique range of refined malt extract products supplied to the food and drinks sector in more than 50 countries worldwide.
Coincident with its core processes a number of by-product residues are produced, and these represent a disposal challenge for the company. The company approached the Scottish Biofuel Programme after identifying anaerobic digestion as a means of addressing the disposal challenge while at the same time making a significant contribution to the company’s energy demand.
The Programme provided technical expertise to support the company in the development of a technical specification for the anaerobic digestion plant, preparation of tender documents and assessment of tenders received. The company plan to install the anaerobic digestion plant in early 2016 that will generate 1.3 MW.
